What we do » Briefings

In order to enable a Consulting Forensic Engineer to Report as fully as possible it is good practice to include in the Brief as much relevant information as possible.

In an advanced case the brief should include Attendances, Statements, Accident Report Forms, Garda Abstracts, other technical reports and Pleadings. The Brief should include contact details of the client and occupiers representative as is appropriate.

In order to carry out an inspection of a locus, equipment or similar the ACFE Guidelines indicate that a Consulting Forensic Engineer should have the formal consent of the owner/occupier. In a recent case the High Court refused to admit the evidence of a Consulting Forensic Engineer deemed to have been a trespasser.

Most Members prefer to make arrangements directly with Clients and other parties rather than through instructing offices as it reduces the links in the communication chain that can go wrong.
